North Flushing Historic Resources
No individual buildings are landmarked in North Flushing within the 19th Council District. However, the Ginsberg-
Carelitz mansion lies a half-block to the west at 145-15 Bayside Avenue, and Flushing High School is located at
the northeast corner of Union Street and Northern Boulevard. There are 1,330 buildings located in the Broadway-
Flushing National Register Historic District, based on a report that I authored in 2004 that celebrates the Colonial
Revival, Tudor Revival and Arts and Crafts-style housing in this century-old neighborhood. The Broadway-Flushing
Homeowners Association and Auburndale Improvement Association are both overwhelmingly in favor of New York
City Landmark Historic District status for Broadway-Flushing but have been unable to achieve this at the present
time, placing one of the best neighborhoods in New York City in jeopardy of being redeveloped with incompatible
architecture.
An additional 700 buildings to the north of Broadway-Flushing have similar historic and architectural character and
are a potential extension to the Broadway-Flushing historic district. Also, there are many other individual buildings
and streets to the west of Broadway-Flushing which have significant historical and architectural importance.
