College Point

A self-contained peninsula town isolated for more than a century by wetlands and water, over the past 50 years illegal dumping and overdevelopment - particularly on the waterfront - have negatively impacted College Point. Megastores constructed on 20th Avenue and other office complexes built on marshland in the College Point Corporate Park have also impacted the residential neighborhoods nearby. A recent contextual rezoning has stabilized the core "village" of College Point, but more needs to be done to preserve its historic character.
